Welcome to Booktime support. We're here to help you make the most of your reading journey. Below you'll find answers to common questions and instructions for using key features of the app.

Reading Tracking

Reading Sessions

Track your reading progress with detailed sessions:

  • Start a reading session by tapping the "Read" tab
  • Search for books by title, author, or ISBN
  • Use the session timer to track reading duration automatically
  • Pause and resume sessions as needed
  • When finished, log your pages read, rating (1-5 stars), and add notes
  • Choose whether your reading should be public or private

Reading Statistics

View your reading insights:

  • Weekly reading snapshot on home screen shows total sessions, pages read, and reading time
  • Detailed statistics in the "You" tab include weekly activity charts, books completed, and subjects explored
  • Track pages read over time with visual charts

Social Features

Profile & Following

Connect with other readers:

  • Follow others to see their reading activity in your feed
  • Private accounts require approval before their content is visible
  • Search for users in the Search tab and tap Follow/Request button
  • Receive notifications when someone requests to follow you
  • Approve or decline follow requests in Settings - Requests to Follow

Feed & Interactions

Engage with your reading community:

  • View a chronological feed of reading activities from followed users
  • Like and comment on reading activities
  • Engage in threaded conversations with text-only comments
  • Receive notifications when someone likes or comments on your activities

Book Clubs

Read and discuss with groups:

  • Create private or public book clubs
  • Invite specific users to join your club
  • Assign books with reading periods (start/end dates)
  • Track member participation for each book assignment
  • Mark reading progress within your club
  • Club admins can edit details, manage members, and create book assignments

Account Management

Profile Settings

Customize your profile:

  • Edit your first and last name
  • Select a profile picture from pre-defined avatars
  • Add optional information like gender and country
  • Adjust privacy settings to control account visibility
  • Choose which reading activities are public or private

Notification Settings

Manage your notifications:

  • Book completion notifications
  • Social notifications (follow requests, likes, comments)
  • Book club notifications (invites, session start/end notifications)

Account Actions

Manage your account:

  • Change your password (requires current password)
  • Delete your account (requires password confirmation)
  • Log out of your account

Important: Account deletion is permanent. Once deleted, your account and all associated data cannot be restored.

Troubleshooting

Login Issues

  • Email verification is required before first login
  • After multiple failed login attempts, you may need to reset your password
  • Session tokens expire after 30 days of inactivity

Book Search Problems

  • Search requires at least 2 characters
  • International books might have limited metadata
  • Books are searchable by title, author, and ISBN
  • Results show different editions with language/format options

Social Feature Issues

  • Following limit: 1000 users maximum
  • Users can be blocked to prevent them from seeing your content
  • Content visibility depends on your privacy settings
  • Deleted activities cannot be recovered

Reading Timer Issues

  • Timer continues when app is backgrounded
  • App prevents screen timeout during active reading sessions
  • If the app crashes during a reading session, the last tracked time is saved

Privacy & Data

Data Usage & Storage

  • Reading history is synced across devices with the same account
  • Book cover images are cached locally to reduce data usage
  • Offline reading tracking is supported (syncs when back online)
  • Book search requires internet connection

Data Collection

  • Reading habits are collected for personalized recommendations
  • Email is used for account verification and communication
  • Profile information is used for social features
  • Usage data is anonymized for analytics

Content Moderation

  • Users can report inappropriate content
  • Comments and activities with reported content are reviewed
  • Multiple violations may result in account suspension
